In the front garden is an enormous Liquid Amber tree. It is about 15 metres tall. I think that we actually bought the tree rather than the house. It is always the last in the neighbourhood to loose its leaves in the autumn and the last to get them back in the spring. The dried leaf in the drawning opposite is left over from last year because the tree is still green.

The furled/curled up leave is well rendered.

The dried leaf is really well done. As always, I like your layout format very much.

I love the contrast between the two pages, Robyn. Once again - inspirational! Thanks

To have such an accomplished graphic artist as you are say that about my sketch, Detlef, is incredibly high praise indeed. Thank you very much.

what a nice journal entry. i love the contrast between the two pages and i like the color washes very much. great layout.

I like seeing the two very different styles side by side. Had you painted the page first before you knew what you would draw there or was it specific to the sketch?

BEAUTIFUL!

beautifully done...love the contrast. The curled leaf looks like one could touch it! Thank you as always for sharing your work!

I love this and your other designs! I especially like the pairing of a realistic rendering of a leaf with an emblematic design on the text page.

And thank you for the warm welcome to EDM.

Very nice. We have the same tree in our front yard. I like that you sketched and used what appears to be acrylic background. Colors are great.

Yes, a pleasing double page - you got the curves of the rolled leaf just right.

Beautiful, but what is on the right page?

Posted by: Bonnie at April 19, 2006 10:45 AM

Beautiful illustration - I love the way its curling up - very real!!!

I also love the difference between the two pages in this spread -- very spring vs autumn -- green vs. dried out. Beautifully done!

Beautiful work! I love the contrast of the two pages (scrummy colours!)

Liquid ambers are such beautiful trees and soooo dangerous. I can't tell you how many times I've negotiated the gauntlet of dropped pods, thought I has successfully navigated them all and then trip myself up. Or perhaps I should say, slip myself up. And more than once, fell flat on my face. I can't help but like those trees though. They are a challenge.

My driveway is covered in pods at the moment which are just waiting to turn my ankle but I LOVE my tree so what is an ankle or two beside tree-love :-)
