Peace postcard

Peace postcard.
Since visiting an exhibition of Zen Brush painting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales recently, I have been interested in oriental art and imagery. It supplied the inspiration for a series of handmade postcards that I needed to produce for a swap on Swap-bot. I needed a single design to send to 5 different people. The final product used some origama paper that I picked up at Eckersley's Art Supplies a couple of weeks ago.

This one didn't have the straightest edge on the cut paper but I think that it has my best attempt at the calligraphy which says 'Peace' in Japanese characters ... I HOPE! I found a few examples on the internet and tried to determine what was the important characteristics of the characters.

The lady is a rubber stamp that I have hand coloured using watercolour, trying to coordinate with the origami paper.

Finally, I have sealed them in plastic sleeves so they can go through the post without too much damage. I have used a sticky label on the outside of the sleeve to act as a platform for the postage stamps which would not adhere to the shiny plastic.

Off they go tomorrow, all to the USA.
