I love lavender.

At the cottage where The Poet and I have stayed in Berrima, the path from the front gate to the front door has lavender growing down each side. The bushes are so big that they almost touch in the middle so when you walk to the door you carry the fragrance of the lavender into the house on the legs of yours jeans. It has been a long time since we were there and the last time we went we found out that the cottages was up for sale. I really want to go there again.

Being the world's worst gardener, I never thought that I would be able to have my own little patch of lavender. What we laughingly call soil in our yard is really tough clay and very hard to dig into. I did dig into it earlier in the year, though, and committed 3 plants to the soil. They are still alive and, better yet, they are blooming!

I love lavender!

Congratulations getting your lilac to grow, Robin. It grows like weeds here, yet we have managed to kill two lots of plants this summer. Now my significant other has struck some cuttings from an old plant in the garden and it looks like they will go the distance. The Berrima cottage does sound like the place you should be for at least a week of your break. Keep sketching, that's the next best thing.

my poor little lavender which was years old looked so sick last summer, they say plants know when they are dying and that's when they set seed, well as the old one expired, up came 5 new little lavender plants, it had never self seeded in all the years before

I also like lavender. Had trouble growing it but the last bit in the pot is surviving. Now I need to research what to do this winter.

Robin, I hope you can make it back to that cottage before too much time passes. Something seems to have erased the picture from your Flickr account, though so I didn't get to see it!
