Sunday Street Fair

This is a new poetry form for me. It is called a cinquain and has the form of 2 syllables, 4 syllables, 6 syllables, 8 syllables, 2 syllables. I think that the last line has to have some sort of boom-boom effect.

The Poet and I set out today to return a faulty purchase that I made yesterday and then to have breakfast. By the time we trekked across half of Sydney to get a relacement item, it was half past lunchtime. The suburb where we ended up having The Big Breakfast for brunch had it's main street blocked off for a street fair. There were children with their faces painted with all sorts of wonderful patterns and trailing brightly coloured balloons running about. All of the stalls and each side of the street were festooned with long pennants flapping in the breeze which foretold the storm that came much later in the afternoon.

The whole wonderful scene inspired this effort at a new poetry form.
